Our client was working in a fast food takeaway, when a fault with the deep fat fryer caused the hot oil to hit our client in the face causing burns to her skin. Our client received serious burns to her head and neck and immediately went to hospital for treatment. Thankfully, rapid medical treatment ensured that there was no long term physical scarring where the hot oil had hit her skin.

However, the psychological impact of the accident was significant.

Our client was badly upset after the accident and went to her GP for treatment of her psychological symptoms.

We obtained for our client a cosmetic surgeon’s report to review the damage to her skin and whether this was long term, or whether it would heal. Thankfully the damage to our client’s skin healed within a period of about 6 months to a year.

In relation to the psychological damage we obtained a psychiatric report. This showed our client was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for a period of 12 to 18 months after the accident. This is a very significant diagnosis as PTSD is a very serious finding in terms of psychological damage. It was clear that our client was deeply troubled and affected by the accident.
